Assistant Legal Cashier

The Role

Reporting to the Practice Manager, the successful candidate will work alongside the Chief

Cashier to the practice by providing competent and efficient assistance in Cashier / Book – Keeping duties. They will provide accountancy and administrative support, including but not limited to the following key tasks:

To undertake daily banking functions including bank reconciliations.

The paying in and preparation of cheques on a daily basis.

The administration and reconciliation of petty cash and nominal accounts.

The processing of client and office accounting transactions including postings onto the

Firm’s accounts system.

Preparation of Month end reports and distribution to Partners and fee-earners.

The processing of bank telegraphic transfers (TT’s).

Full Management of the firm’s Payroll system and returns to HMRC.

Financial management reporting as required.

The preparatory work for the annual accounts.

Ordering stationery for the firm on a regular basis and maintain control of the firm’ stationery and office supplies. VAT administration and returns.

Administration of the office insurance, practising certificates, professional indemnity insurance, and file reviews etc.

Provide cover for the reception team if requested to do so by the practice manager and partners.

The position involves assisting the Practice Manager in a wide range of work and there is plenty of scope for personal development. The successful applicant will have an outstanding opportunity to develop the profile of the Department and to progress further at the firm.

Candidate specification

Candidates should ideally have:

  • An accountancy qualification or relevant knowledge and experience.

  • Law Firm accounts experience would be preferred but is not essential

  • Ability to adhere to and manage deadlines

  • Knowledge of financial guidelines with regards to Solicitors Accounts Rules and cash flow control.

  • Strong IT skills

  • Understanding of Microsoft packages and Legal Electronic Case Management Systems

  • Ability to and knowledge of how to handle sensitive and confidential information in a legal environment

  • Excellent communication skills including experience of writing concise and accurate reports and summaries

  • Ability and willingness to work with others as part of a team

  • Flexible approach to work
