Our Partnership with The Forest of Marston Vale
Here at Spectrum we love the outdoors and as a company feel we have a responsibility to put a little bit back into the community. We're delighted to partner with the Forest of Marston Green and for every candidate we place, a tree is planted in the forest. As well as nice thing to do, we like to think it symbolises new beginnings and the growth possible from a new position.
At the last count we've planted 239 trees ...and counting!
We were very fortunate to be joined at the Marston Vale Trust by Spectrum Recruitment since November 2010, and since then have enjoyed a fantastic partnership with Suzanne and her team. Spectrum committed to planting a tree for every person that they secured in employment in the local area, and so far we have planted countless trees at the Forest Centre
2014 over 100 trees were planted
2015 totalled 59
2016 totalled 80
How's that for innovation, regeneration and an environmental friendly way to celebrate!
For us at the Forest Centre, this means that we have a double celebration every time one of their candidates secures a position, because the local economy is being boosted and also the local environment too.
I think the most appealing part for the candidate is that a tree is planted at the start of their new career, which will grow as their prospects grow, and their new position has contributed to a lasting mark on the Bedfordshire landscape, that wildlife will live in, and families will enjoy.
The Marston Vale Trust commit to planting new woodlands every year within a 61 square mile radius between Bedford and Milton Keynes, and to have found a corporate partner who is so forward thinking as Spectrum is very rare, and we hope that more companies learn from Spectrum's fabulous example.
Since the early 1990s, the Forest of Marston Vale have been planting trees to transform the landscape between Bedford and Milton Keynes to create the Forest – growing a green, thriving place for the community to live, work and play.
The Forest being created is a community forest. It’s for everyone to enjoy and benefit from, but as a charity, the Forest of Marston Vale need support to look after our legacy and plant new woodlands for you and future generations to enjoy.
The charity has already planted over 1.5 million trees to start creating the Forest, transforming over 60 square miles once dominated by brickworks and clay pits. Their vision is to have trees covering 30% of the Forest area – that’s another 5 million trees - and they need help to achieve this.
Why create a Forest? Because Forests matter to all of us, as well as the wildlife that live in them. They help to cool and clean our air, lock up carbon and slow the rate of climate change. They reduce flooding and stabilise water levels, protect and sustain livelihoods, and provide valuable raw materials. They can even keep us healthier. You could call that the magic of trees.
